“OMG! You’re RegularGirlFitness! Hey! How are you? So nice to finally meet you!”
*blank stare*
“Wha- Huh? Oh, uh, yeah! Yes, yes I am RegularGirlFitness! Hey! How are you?” I replied ever so eloquently.
“I love your page! I work with a restaurant downtown and we have been wanting to do some healthy food or meal prep demos with you.”
Wow. Woooowww. I was in awe. Someone who I had never met, approached me and knew me by my fitness Instagram (@RegularGirlFitness) … And she was really excited about it! *happy dance*
Something that I started as a means to challenge myself and to chronicle my fitness journey turned into something so much greater than I ever expected it to be. That’s when it hit me:
Change doesn’t always come in the form we think it should.
You see, I cofounded RegularGirlFitness when I was unhappy with my health and wanted a change. It was really just meant to hold myself accountable, to inspire me and to keep a record of progress and growth. But through it, so many doors have been opened. A few pictures or videos a week on Instagram of meal prep recipes, yoga poses, inspiration and workout ideas helped me discover one of my passions. Not only do I love playing sports and being active, but I love being healthy.
I want my journey and struggles to provide motivation for others and to be an example that people can get fit, still eat great food and have a life too. I have since gotten certified as a personal trainer. All of this sprouted from one tiny commitment I made to myself to make health a priority in my life. It’s astounding to me that something so small could really change my life so much.
This got me thinking more about change. Have you ever wanted or needed to make a change? Have you ever felt stuck? Like maybe the only thing that could really change your life is to quit your job and move across the country? Sometimes drastic action might be necessary, but in most situations, change is born from something simple, yet so profound, as making a decision.
Here are 3 C’s of Change to help you get started:
Choice
All it takes to change your life is for you to choose to. Once your mind is made up, you are well on your way.
Commitment
The biggest successes and most monumental changes come from the choices we make long before the success or change comes to fruition. The period between choice and breakthrough is where commitment comes in. After you decide what you want to do, make the commitment to yourself to do it. No matter how slow you may start, no matter how ugly it may be, just keep going. You’re worth it.
Consistency
Change doesn’t happen overnight. Much to my dismay, sometimes it doesn’t even happen over the course of many nights. Just keep showing up. Big things are bound to happen!
What commitment will you make today to change for the better?
