\"Field<\/a>Yes, God will put more on us than we can bear. How else would we ever learn to trust Him and believe His Word?<\/b><\/p>\n

I know this flies in the face of conventional thinking, but if we pause and consider it we\u2019ll find it a freeing notion. Some of our best lessons in humility, grace and compassion come when we are out of options and embrace God working through others to meet our needs.<\/p>\n

I was reminded of this yesterday while attending the Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity<\/b> <\/a>Unlock the Dream breakfast. A family of 13 shared their incredible journey of going from living out of a van for months to owning their own home. It was such an uplifting and inspiring story! What really stuck with me was how they made the transition.<\/p>\n

The mom said, \u201cThere were times when we were almost without hope, but our faith in God renewed us. What Habitat gave us was a plan. Because when resources are few, you need a plan<\/b>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Isn\u2019t that the truth? I remember the days when $5 could feed my family of two for a whole week. That\u2019s because when I had less I planned more. I sometimes wonder why it is that the more we have the less intentional we become with our spending. Shouldn\u2019t it be the other way around?<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve become especially conscious of this with my giving. I love supporting lots of worthy causes. But I\u2019ve had to stop and ask, wouldn\u2019t it more fruitful to plant a whole field rather than sprinkling seeds everywhere?<\/p>\n

Listening to that family\u2019s story yesterday inspired me to research making my own Giving Plan<\/b><\/a>. I love the notion of being purposeful with our giving. Not only does it show respect for the resources God has given us, but it also allows us to make a bigger impact in the areas He is placing on our heart.<\/p>\n

Now, I know none of us have a lot of time so I found a giving plan that\u2019s easy and takes only 15 minutes to create. Try it<\/b><\/a> and let me know what you think. I\u2019d love to hear about the causes that mean the most to you and your family. If you’re anything like us, they’ll be born out of the times when life was too much to bear alone.<\/p>\n

Of course the flip side of learning humility in our trying times is the joy of expressing compassion when others are going through. What a wonderful gift it is to be used by God to sow seeds of goodness and grace in the lives of another. I pray He continues to give us wisdom to plant wisely, and showers us with a harvest of impact that transforms our world.<\/p>\n
