Nearly every day we encounter something that makes us say, “I always wanted to try that” or “I wish I could do that”. It’s as if we’re stuck in this endless cycle of wishes and wants that we don’t ever convert into actions and achievements.

Well this year, I’ve made up my mind to just go for it – whatever “it” is. I’m not trying to prove anything to myself or anyone else. I just want to see some of my wishes come true, before I’m too old to enjoy them.

Yesterday as I was preparing for my latest adventure – rock climbing – I kept wondering why in the world did it take me so long to get to this place? I mean sure, I was a single parent, worked lots of hours, was involved in the community and had a very full life. Was it only my lack of time that kept me from trying new things? Maybe, but I doubt it.

When my son first went off to college I had all sorts of “free time”. But I didn’t suddenly start doing all the things I’d wanted to. No, instead the available time just became more work time; then of course I was back to not having time. Or at least, so it seemed.

The thing I’ve had to learn about time is that we all have the same amount each day. How we spend it is up to us. But most of us don’t believe that. So we spend our whole lives abdicating our power to someone else, letting them determine how, when and where we spend our minutes.

It would be a tragedy if the situation was permanent, but the truth is we can take back our power any time we please. How? By embracing and believing one empowering thought – I am the CEO of me!

It’s hard to grasp that at first, especially when we work for someone else. That’s because in large part our boss determines our focus for our time at the job. But that is work – not life. And contrary to what society would have us believe, work and life are not equal or the same. So while there may be a CEO of the company where you work, you are the CEO of your life. Therefore, you get to decide how and where you invest your time and energy.

I know we’re all busy. Lord knows we have to make a living. But it’s alright for us make up our mind to carve out some time – be it every day, every week, or just once a month – to making our own dreams come true.

Don’t believe it can happen? Here are 4 things many of us are wishing for right now and ideas on how to make them happen.

I wish I could make a career change. Solution: Reinvent you. I realize we’re just coming out of a recession, many areas of the world have limited opportunity, and it’s not easy. But you didn’t wish for easy – you want change. And we all know, if we want a different life we can’t keep doing the same thing. Go back to school, learn a new skill, be willing to relocate, or if you can afford it temporarily take less pay to try something new. It may take time, but you can transition.

I wish I had my own business. Solution: Start one. Over the last 20 years I have owned 12 businesses. None made millions, but they all made me happy. Remember, it doesn’t have to be THE business; just start A business. Get your feet wet before you invest your whole life savings; better yet do it while you’re still living on a salary from someone else.

I wish I had more fun. Solution: Go try something new! Life is not boring, we are. There are infinite possibilities to excite and amuse us. We simply don’t go do them. Sometimes it’s because we don’t want to do them alone, but we can’t spend our lives waiting on someone else to get on our page. Just pick something that interests you and go for it. You’ll meet the people who are there doing it too and you won’t be alone.

I wish I could meet that special someone. Solution: Heck, I don’t know. I have friends who have met their mates on line, at the grocery store, through friends, at church, and on and on. The one thing they have in common? They were all living. No one was at home twiddling their thumbs and their mates materialized before them in a vapor. So I’m going to take a page from their book and just live my life as God directs, and trust Him for the rest.

We can put just about anything on this list and come up with a solution. The point is we have the power to choose, and we have the time to make it happen. God made us creatures of free will, and gifted us with precious moments each day. We don’t need more hours in the day. We just need the courage to own the minutes we have, and invest them in the things we want.

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to get to the end of my days with an endless list of wishes. I’m going for it, and I hope you are too!

Loving on Me as I Love You! ❤

Have you noticed how much of life we spend wishing and wanting?
