Feeling comfortable in your own skin at 60 can be a challenge for many women, especially when one tries to compete with youth. The answer to our quest for beauty is at our fingertips. We hold the key. The true meaning of beauty at and after 60 is internal seeding that feeds the external. As a woman in your sixties, embrace the power you have and let go of the notion that you must look younger; you do not! Don’t try to work toward younger looking skin, work toward a healthy body and you will have both. Age is just a number, if you take care of yourself. Embrace your lines in that beautiful face and a body not as taunt as when you were 20. These imperfections represent the wonderful, unique lives we live, and we should be proud of our gift to still be present.
In addition, we must remember that we are the sum of all our experiences. Life is a constant journey that yields many outcomes. Triumphs and failures do not set our path for success and accomplishments; nor do they define who we are or what we can aspire to. They demonstrate our path line and road taken.
Be strong, courageous, fabulous and marching through 60!
Tips to help you keep that beautiful glow
Protect your skin from the sun
Sun damage is a leading cause of wrinkled, spotted skin. Limit sun exposure, wear hats and use sun block. Sun damage doesn’t become fully apparent until later in life. It is not too late to make a difference in the health of your skin by reducing your sun exposure. Using sun block and avoiding excessive sun also reduces the risk of skin cancer.
Before you sleep, wash your face
Dry skin is one of the most common challenges for women over 60, because the skin becomes drier as we lose oil glands. One of the best ways to reduce dry skin is to wash your face every night before bed and exfoliate. Use mild skin soap and hydrate skin from within. Drink lots of water!
Do not smoke
If you are a smoker, you have more wrinkles than other people your age who do not smoke. Stop!
Don’t soak too long in the tub
Bathing can be a great way to relax, but spending too much time in the tub might be drying out your skin. If you love a long bath, use a bath oil or lavender. Use body moisturizer when you get out of the bath while your skin is still a damp.
Use natural products
Many skin care products are packed with chemicals and heavily processed ingredients. You can get better results with natural skin care products that contain herbs, coconut oil or olive oil. Ingredients in the kitchen also help you achieve healthier skin. Use sugar and oatmeal to exfoliate. Make a face mask from ½ lemon squeezed into two beaten egg whites to firm skin. Spray your face with rose water after you wash it and then apply your moisturizer.
Give your skin the nutrition it needs
Skin needs healthy nutritional intake. We need the micro and macro nutrients from fruits and vegetables. Yes, we must eat a balanced diet with plenty of vegetables, but there are some foods that help you achieve naturally radiant skin:
Dark Chocolate
Choose dark chocolate with at least 70% cocoa content. It is rich in antioxidants, fatty acids and plant substances flavones. These ingredients promote glowing skin and cocoa relaxes arteries and increases blood circulation, leading to healthier skin. Avoid chocolate with milk and added sugar.
Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is one of the richest sources of saturated fat, which is good for your skin. It is rich in essential fatty acids and vitamin E and perfect for keeping skin moist, soft and wrinkle-free. It is also great for hair and cooking!
Spinach
Spinach contains nutrient-rich ingredients such as folate, chlorophyll, vitamin E, magnesium, vitamin A, fiber, plant protein, and vitamin C. Vitamins C, E and A are especially great for your skin. If you add luscious, green spinach to your diet, you are cleaning your skin from the inside out!
Papaya
Papaya is an amazing fruit with great nutritional benefits. It is low in calories and fructose, making it excellent for digestion. The link between digestion, general health and good skin is an important part of the 2,000-year-old Indian Ayurveda philosophy. Antioxidant nutrients found in papaya include vitamins C, E and beta-carotene, all great for glowing skin!
Carrots
Carrots are good for your eyes and skin. Carrots are high in beta-carotene, an antioxidant that converts to vitamin A inside the body. Vitamin A helps prevent overproduction of cells in the skin.
All of these tips are great additions to your beauty regimen! Remember, you are because God set you in motion, equipping you with your own brand. There is no other creature like you on this earth and there never will be after you leave. I am one of a kind – I am!
