Investing in the lives of others is one of my greatest joys in life. It’s also when I feel closest to God and the purpose for which He created me. I am especially passionate about causes affecting women and children – particularly those focused on health, hunger, education and empowerment.
So, I’ve decided to be a philanthropist. I know we usually reserve that word for “big” givers, but I’ve seen for myself that you can do a lot with a little when it’s in the right hands. You can do even more when your friends join you!
Each month I’ll profile three non-profits I think are doing great work at home or abroad. If the organization’s mission moves you, please join me in supporting them. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a lot. Whatever you have to give is enough.
I believe we are going to do great things together!
Peace and Blessings,
Katrina
PS – Drop me a line with your suggestions for great organizations to support?
Organizations I’m Supporting This Month
Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy

BBF works to eliminate the generational cycle of illiteracy in America. Currently funding more than 50 programs across the country, they offer programming in both adult education and preschool learning. What touches my heart most is that they are most often serving single moms who are working really hard to improve the quality of life for themselves and their kids. Two thumbs up!

NBOI addresses the needs of children that have been abused or abandoned in a variety of situations. Currently working with orphanages in three African countries, they provide physical, mental and spiritual support along with provisions for primary, secondary and post-secondary education. Great organization to volunteer with and support!
For 32 years, Susan G. Komen has been dedicated to fighting breast cancer. Locally, they support programs that provide education, free screenings and treatment assistance. Nationally, they are the largest private funder of breast cancer research. Supporting them really is the MOST you can do to help end breast cancer. Volunteer, give, or help spread the word!

Congratulations, Katrina, on this new direction which really incorporates your good work of the past. And, it sounds like the good work of your mama too! If your travels bring you to Detroit, know that there will always be room in the inn.
